Yamini Krishnan was a beautiful Bharat Natyam danseuse who was awarded a scholarship by a university in Australia to learn and also conduct Bharatnatyam for the Indians there. Yamini was a single parent, a widow but from her youthful pretty face, nobody could tell that she was a mother to a teenager. Dancing was her passion right from childhood. Yamini somehow felt she wasn’t able to give her son any attention and that was the reason for his poor academic performance at school. She had established her own dancing school in Chennai and barely had the time to sit with her son. As a result Ramesh’s scores were going low.

Yamini was called to attend a PTA meeting where the teacher told her about the need for paying more attention to Ramesh’s study schedule because he wasn’t doing his homework on time or wasn’t paying attention in class. Listening to all this Yamini was a little disappointed. She had been sent tickets to Australia by the University for next week and she just didn’t know what to do. Yamini had very recently seen an advertisement in the newspaper of a posh residential school that had come up in Chennai. She felt if she could not give the child attention, then the environment of a hostel in a residential school would be strict enough to ensure his home work was done on time.

Yamini had her own justifications. She felt that if she had studies a little more herself she would have been in a position to teach her son. But since she herself didn’t know anything about the topics that her son was studying she felt bad. She thought she would put him in a hostel for 6 months while she was out. The next day Yamini took her son to the boarding school. The school was posh and was run by the Jesuit fathers. Simple and spacious, the school looked visually appealing. They entered the principal’s room and spoke to the principal about Ramesh’s admission into hostel. The Principal introduced them to the warden to see the rooms in the hostel. Ramesh found two of his classmates in hostel and seeing that the principal decided to put him with them. Six months later, Ramesh’s scores had improved considerably and he had grown up to understand not to trouble his mother anymore.
